met with Allen Jorgensen in Johannesburg, South Africa. Originally born in the
United States he emigrated to South Africa in 1964. His passion for steam locomotives
has been a driving force in his photography for the last thirty years and has
manifested itself in the publishing of four books of photographs and writings
on the subject. Additionally, Allen has honored this passion by spearheading a
national movement to preserve the steam locomotive from extinction. When we talked
with him in the Magaliesberg mountain region, about 60 miles north of Johannesburg,
he shared some interesting insight into the new South Africa and the art's movement
of the seventies.
The
interview
we conducted with Allen deeply entrenched in the Magaliesberg
montains is fascinating reading.
